Parents behaving badly...a tragic accident...or murder? What isn't in doubt is that someone is dead.

Madeline is a force to be reckoned with: witty, noisy and passionate. She remembers everything and forgives no one.

Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare. But perfection is often an illusion.

Jane is a single mum with a mysterious past who carries a sadness beyond her years.

These three women, all with children starting at the same school, are about to tell the little lies that can turn lethal...

'A hell of a good book. Funny and scary.' Stephen King

Contains Spoilers: Keep Reading?

Taking the most domestic setting (kindergarten school) for the most common of domestic dramas (domestic violence) and someone does get murdered. When Jane takes her son, Ziggy to his first day of school, she makes friends with two of the locals (Madeline and Celeste ). The big little lies are the ones women tell themselves to survive (especially if their partner is violent). The structure of a book can often determine the success or failure of a novel. In this case it worked, the novel keep moving from the point of view of Jane, Madeline and Celeste as each person deals with her personal dramas (Jane is looking for her son's father, Madeline is sharing her daughter with an ex-partner and Celeste has the violent husband). The writer used the device of first person comments by the supporting characters about the murder or about the main characters which pop up at the start and end of each new chapter to help give the book a connective thread.
