Now You See Her is the 26th stand-alone novel by James Patterson and is co-written with Michael Ledwidge. When 21-year-old Jeanines spring break in Key West finds her drunkenly running down a biker and killing him, she is rescued by an understanding cop. A cop who takes care of things for her, a very attractive cop named Peter Fournier whom she ends up marrying. But 2 years later, pregnant, Jeanine finds out a few things about Peter that send her into hiding. She fakes her own abduction by a serial killer known as the Jump Killer, and makes a new life for herself and her daughter in New York as Nina Bloom. Fast forward 16 years and Nina finds herself making a last-ditch attempt to prove the innocence of a prisoner on death row accused of the Jump Killer murders, and risking her cover by returning to Florida. This fast-paced Patterson novel is in the usual short chapter format and has plenty of suspense and intrigue. Patterson throws in plenty of variety with perjury, a last-minute death-row pardon, spiked drinks, drug trafficking, sex slaves, crooked cops, missing evidence, DNA and plenty of murder. While the plot starts off pretty well, some of the twists towards the end will stretch the readers belief. This is certainly better written than Toys, with plot, characters and dialogue all more realistic. Plenty of action in this one.
