Graeme Base

Graeme Base is one of the world's leading creators of picture books. His alphabet book Animalia, received international acclaim when it was first published in 1986, and has achieved classic status with worldwide sales approaching three million copies. It has now inspired an animated TV series.

Alison Lester

Alison Lester (Australian Children's Laureate, 2012 - 2013) is one of Australia's most popular and bestselling creators of children's books. She has won many awards, including the 2005 Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Picture Book of the Year Award for her much-loved classic Are We There Yet? and the 2012 CBCA Eve Pownall Book of the Year Award for One Small Island.

Her picture books include Running with the Horses, a story based on the evacuation of the world-famous Lipizzaner horses from the Spanish Riding School in Vienna during World War Two; One Small Island, about the possibility of hope and environmental preservation for a World Heritage listed island and for the world itself; Sophie Scott Goes South about a little girl's voyage to Antarctica and the sense of wonder that it brings; Kissed by the Moon, a lyrical celebration of the natural world and all that it has to offer a child; and My Dog Bigsy to name just a few.

Alison lives on a farm in the Victorian countryside. She spends part of each year travelling to schools around Australia, helping students and teachers develop their own stories.

Elizabeth Honey

Elizabeth Honey is an award-winning author of poetry, picture books and novels. Her playful humour, originality and energy strike a chord with children everywhere.

Elizabeth is also an artist and illustrates her own books. 45 + 47 Stella Street and everything that happened was an Honour Book in the CBCA Book of the Year Awards for younger readers, and was adapted for the stage and performed at the Kaleide RMIT Union Theatre, Melbourne.

Her other titles include picture books I'm Still Awake, Still!, That's not a Daffodil! (CBCA Honour Book, and now a musical theatre production), and Hop up! Wriggle over!; poetry Honey Sandwich; and novels To the Boy in Berlin, Remote Man and Don't Pat the Wombat!. Elizabeth's books are lasting favourites, they win literary awards, and are published in many countries.

This book perfectly captures the magic of Mornington Island. The story and pictures will bring the Island alive for younger readers. It's also recommended for older readers who hope to rekindle memories of a beautiful community.

This is a beautiful book with amazing artwork. We loved it and would recommend it to early primary and those wanting to do a book study.
