Most everyone will know what happens in the first book; Alice falls down a rabbit hole and goes on all the crazy adventures. In ‘Through the Looking-Glass’, Alice steps through the mirror above the mantel in her sitting room and ends up in another world again.
I have to say that while I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be – that may have been why I’d put off reading it for years upon years... It wasn’t too much like the first book, in that… ‘AiW’ had a very magical, sing-song quality; it felt like the book was just being sung to you. ‘TtLG’ was far more sombre and a little tedious in places. While ‘AiW’ is definitely designed for kids and to capture their little imaginations, ‘TtLG’ felt more of an adult book but with a warped childlike imagination… I’m not sure how to explain it, but it was just somewhat darker and more complicated than the first. But I’m glad to have finally gotten around to reading them both! Huzzah!
